General information
The Information Offices of the Council of Europe are set up by decision of the Committee of Ministers at the request of governments. Their task is to disseminate information about the Council of Europe, its activities and standards and to support and promote the Organisation’s initiatives in the respective countries.
The Information Office of the Council of Europe in Skopje was set up on 7 April 1997.
Mission
- Helping individuals, NGOs and political institutions to contact the Council of Europe or to access information on its activities;
- Contributing directly to the implementation of the information strategy of the Council of Europe;
- Translating, publishing and disseminating Council of Europe texts and other pertinent documents of particular interest, preparing new publications, and developing and maintaining a Website;
- Organising and participating in national events of European interest on behalf of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe;
- Contributing to and supporting the implementation of co-operation programmes and other Council of Europe projects in the host countries.
Library
The Office possesses an impressive collection of publications and documents produced by the Council of Europe, which are available to all visitors.
The collection of the Information Office contains numerous documents and publications on open shelves, including periodicals. Updates and documents arrive on a quarterly basis. Visitors are also welcome to consult the publications, audiovisual materials, calendars of Council of Europe events, minutes and proceedings from sessions and press releases. Most of the publications are in English or French, the official languages of the Council of Europe.
In addition to the permanent collection, the Information Office offers a range of Council of Europe leaflets and information booklets, which are available for visitors to take away.
The Council of Europe Information Office in Skopje is a Council of Europe institution.
